Ladislav Sutnar: Visual Design in Action
Ladislav Sutnar’s contributions during the 1950s and ’60s to modern graphic design are legendary, but since his death in 1976 the designer and his work had been virtually forgotten. Now, with the newly published facsimile edition of his landmark book Ladislav Sutnar: Visual Design in Action (Lars Müller, 2015), a new generation will be able to experience his genius as a brand and information designer.
The editors of the facsimile, Steven Heller and Reto Caduff, will be joined by Swann Auction Galleries’ President (and Director of Vintage Posters) Nicholas D. Lowry to discuss Sutnar’s Czech work and the renowned American painter Philip Pearlstein to recall what it was like to work as Sutnar’s assistant in New York during the 1950s.
Reto Caduff and Steven Heller will sign copies (including those previously shipped to Kickstarter backers) of Ladislav Sutnar: Visual Design in Action in the exhibition hall after the program. A limited number of additional copies of the book will be available for sale in the exhibition hall from Lars Müller during the signing.
